What “fish quality” really means

Plenty of lakes have bass in them. Far fewer have quality bass: fish with strong body condition, steady growth rates and the size structure that makes every trip worth it. Getting there is not luck. It is the result of a management plan that is built on data and adjusted year after year.

On Lake Y, that process started with electrofishing surveys to understand what was actually swimming in the lake, followed by removing undesirable species, building the forage base and managing habitat and water. Episode 18 picks up that story and looks at what it takes to move the fishery from “improving” to “trophy caliber.”
